Piano warm-up

Good warm-up = productive practice/performance.

So often for too late have I realized that I have not warmed up my fingers well enough before practice.. Result = level of productive practice had sunken to mere 60%.. instead of all 100.

Why is it important to have a good warm-up ..? A discussion for all.

Of course the good old Etudes/Studies (every place have a different name for these) help a lot. In fact, playing polyphonic pieces, especially those by J.S. Bach help to warm-up so much! Play through one or two Inventions, Prelude’s & Fugue’s and you’r good for productive practice session!

But when it comes to beginners, best are exercises such as Hanon, that are simple to understand, and, when used creatively, actually develop one’s technique significantly.
